Why roof moss matters
Moss and lichen trap moisture against your roof surface. Over time that constant dampness can lift tiles, break down coatings and work into joins — turning a cosmetic problem into a costly one. Catching it early is always cheaper than dealing with the damage later.
The signs to watch for
1. Green or black patches spreading across the tiles, especially on shaded, south-facing sections. 2. Clumps of moss growing along tile overlaps or in the valleys. 3. Dark staining streaking down from the ridge. 4. Granules or debris collecting in your gutters (a sign the roof surface is breaking down). 5. Moss visible from the ground — if you can see it from the street, it’s well established.
What to do about it
Roof moss is treated with a soft-wash approach, not high pressure — blasting a roof can do more harm than the moss itself. A proper moss treatment kills the growth at the root so it clears over the following weeks and is slower to return. If you’ve spotted any of the signs above, it’s worth getting a free assessment before the next wet season sets in.
